Inner Peace

Our struggles, successes, failures and daily doings keep us occupied and often distracted from the real purpose of our being. We all seek an inner peace which will give us solace, rest and serenity. We long for the ramblings and ragings in our heads to quiet themselves yet continue to strive forward in search of some external goal that will bring us happiness. There never seems to be enough time. And that is the illusion that drives us. There is time if we decide to make it. All we have to do is make peace within a priority.

The difficulty we find in making time to do the work necessary for inner peace is just that.  Making time.  The difficulty in making peace a priority is similiar.  We don't make time or make peace a priority because there is an inner voice hidden deep in our minds that tells us that we are somehow not worthy of the effort.  Everything else is more important.  The result is a frantic lifestyle that causes inner and outer conflict, compromised physical health, regrets and resentments.  We can always take care of our aching selves later.  Maybe on vacation or when we retire.  The truth is that we need to start right now if we are ever to find peace.

Peace Pilgrim taught that there is a criterion by which we can judge whether the thoughts that we are thinking and the things that we are doing are right for us. The criterion is: Have they brought us inner peace? If they have not, there is something wrong with them…so keep seeking! If what we do has brought us inner peace, stay with what we believe is right. This is a key to finding the answers that we seek. We can make time every morning or every night to spend in quiet contemplation of our lives. We can choose to simplify. We can choose to love. We can choose peace within and peace with others.

Answers In The Snow

A single snowflake!

The winter snow seems to be endless and everywhere by the first of February.  We are tired of scooping, scraping and being trapped inside.  Enough of the white stuff already!  My son, Steven, is one who never seems to be weary of it.  It's not like he is a little kid or someone who is inexperienced with all of the down sides of long winters.  He is an adult who was born and spent much of his early life in Michigan. He just delights in it.  One of his Facebook entries from last week proclaimed "Let It Snow, Let It Snow!"  The responses from friends and family were not so enthusiastic.  He reminds me that there is always something magical about snow.  It has elements of childhood, surprise and beauty that we should explore rather than shun.  Within each snowfall are thousands and thousands of unique snowflakes which serve to remind us of who we are.

Our unique self, like a snowflake, will never be duplicated.  The evidence of this is everywhere.  Our DNA is comprised of markers that are arranged only for one person.  It never has been and never will be again.  Only you!  Even twins do not have the same DNA.  The combination of parents, grandparents and countless generations of ancestors each give us a gift of themselves in the pattern that becomes you.  It took thousands of years to come up with the design for each individual.  And here we are.  Our uniquess can be found in fingerprints.  Each time we touch something we leave a stamp of our existence behind.  We are here and we are one of a kind.  The mold has been broken.

We have an individual and divine purpose in our uniqueness. The odds of your random creation are so small that it is incomprehensible.  Wayne Dyer talks about the fact that a great wind sweeping through a garbage dump, gathering up all of the pieces and setting them down as a fully assembled Boeing 747 is more likely than the exclusive collection of cells and tissue that is you.  We matter simply because of this.  Our importance cannot be understated.  Some incredible love story of our creator has to be at work here.  Such a miracle as you can have no other explanation.

The answer to the questions 'Who Am I?' and "Where Am I going?' is this.  You are the beloved.  God's favor rests upon you.  You are on a one of a kind adventure that will never be duplicated.  Make the most of every bit of it.  Look at the snow.  Then all you have to do is remember.

Living Your Dream

Life is meaningful when we are working toward the great vision of our dreams. It becomes enriched by a higher calling that enables us to accomplish the improbable. Gail Devers once said that we should keep our dreams alive and that we must “Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” There are few obsticles that remain in our way when we summon the power of our purpose. We can tackle things that otherwise would block our most determined efforts.

The absence of a dream and lack of a vision leave life flat and empty. Every one of us has had dreams for the future. The problem is that many of us have allowed the requirements of the daily grind to dash them on the rocks. We begin to muddle through and just survive. Our problems become overwhelming and we get stuck. Life seems to pass us by.

The truth is that every problem teaches us how to resolve it when we have vision. Nothing is impossible when we are serving our dreams. Our passion becomes fulfilled when we recognize and honor the daily mission of accomplishing our routine tasks and jobs. Remember that nothing is ordinary. Then, even that which was once mundane, becomes elevated. Accept the challenge to revive the dream that has slipped away and live in dedication to its achievement.
